cokane was right, the highpass filter does help a great deal, as shown by the figure drawing page, though I may need to go over them again, and play with the settings, I just used the default and some of the bits are a bit brighter. Still, it's worlds better than the dark edges. Have to go through some on the artclass page as well. So many things left to learn about Photoshop, and I've been using it since 96.
