Ok guys, listen up. The xbox is fabulous. It doesn't lock up. It's another console to choose from, comes with broadband capabilities, a hard drive (which helps game developers with development) and! you don't have to buy a memory card right off the bat. Also, you have the ability to play with up to 4 people on the physical machine, ie, 4 ports for controllers. You don't have to buy an extra thing to hook up for the 2 extra controllers.Plus, the graphic capabilities are outstanding.

The harddrive also lets you rip music from your favorite cd's, and play them in variety of games. (in Project Gotham, it comes up like music on radio stations).

The Xbox is a good thing. We got ours in the American launch and were blown away by the quality of the hardware, and some of the launch games.
We have DOA3 (which is beautiful and fun)
Halo (which has been on at least 4 nights a week)---pick this one up! it has a great story, amazing graphics, and you can co-op through story mode with a friend ( my husband and I beat the game the first time like this), and tons of multiplay features like capture the flag, king of the hill, and a whole lot more, plus you can even change the rules of those multiplay modes to play your own unique brands of games. Also, Halo let's you link up to 4 xbox's for up to 16 people in multiplay! We've only got up to 2 xbox's linked at a time yet, but it's so much fun to have your friends over to play.
We've also picked up Max Payne (which my husband really liked, even though it's not the prettiest title) and Azurik(which is pretty, an adventure/exploration game which I like, but my husband does not)

(Also to note, while it might never physically happen to you or I, but the Xbox supports linking up to 16 xbox's for up to 64 player madness)

Also, any game that is linkable to other systems can be played over the net if you have broadband with the help of gamespy. So, games like tony hawk 3, and halo are already being played online, way before the advent of supported online gaming.

The Xbox is a good deal, it's the top of the line console, comes with all the goodies, and will even be supporting voice capabilities when they get the online networks up and running. There is also a lot of good titles out there (more than our budget can handle), with even more coming out for the us in the next 2 months! How are we going to choose between Morrowind and Jet Grind radio future, when we still haven't picked up Silent Hill and Obi-Wan, or Oddworld.

I hope you'll have places like Blockbuster nearby, they've been renting games, which is a godsend.

Anyway, if you have more questions, feel free to email me. We had the same fears many of you do about the system, but we made an informed, educated decision about the console, and tried both it and the cube out before buying.

Bottom line was, the games we want to play are coming to Xbox. We were surprised to love the system as much as we do. (we are also huge dreamcast lovers)

Xbox is getting Metal Gear Solid 2, most likely Grand Theft Auto 3, and has a version of SSX Tricky

Feb. releases include.
Wreakless http://xbox.ign.com/news/41382.html (Which we are picking up soon.)
Jet Grind Radio Future http://www.jsrf.com/indexe.html (also on my to buy list)
Gun Valkyrie http://www.teamxbox.com/screenthumbs.php?gid=54

Spring Releases include:
Morrowind http://www.morrowind.com (which looks like a blast, I'm really excited about it)
Buffy the Vamp Slayer (the screens look great)

Eventual releases include:
Unreal Championship http://xbox.ign.com/previews/16292.html
Project Ego (Based on the Black and white engine) http://www.teamxbox.com/content.php?%20id=54
A version of Black and White
And many more I've forgotten.

As it stands now, there are more games that we want for this awesome system than we have money for.

There are things the Cube and the Box can do, that the ps2 just can't do, due to being a year old in tech. The Ps2 is still a good system. But I think, for your money, the Xbox is a great deal.

i'd get one... but the fact that the controler is the size of a small baby, the system needs to be turned sideways to fit through doors, and the graphics aren't any better than the dreamcast... i think i'll stick with my beloved DC.

thankyou.
