Out of the blue last week, Sara got a hold of me. I'd been emailing her for months, but didn't know she didn't have net access, and I had misplaced her number.
Turns out, she had misplaced my number too! It was good to chat, and she invited me out to the Bristol Ren Faire on Saturday.
It was a beautiful day for Ren Fairing. It was warm enough, but not too hot, with a good breeze. I haven't been back to the faire for quite a lot of time. We missed last summer completely, and hadn't planned on going this summer. Thankfully, Sara came to the rescue, and even helped me into my bodice and other things(we used my red cape as a skirt), so I could go to the faire, and feel pretty and fun.
We had a rather nice time, with the sun filtering down through the trees. I got a new green skirt(pictured), and a pretty bracelet made of chainmail links and green beads, and a great matching anklet that has tiny little silver bells and green beads.
It's so funny, with both of us in bodices, we didn't have much room for the yummy foods at the faire. We figured out a system though, we got small orders of things and split them; sauteed garlic mushrooms, almonds roasted in cinnamon, and homemade teriyaki jerky. (I think that's all) We also made a stop for some sassafras. yum!
Speaking of bodices, we had to loosen mine after a stop at the flutemakers. After trying to make the flute sound, several times, I started feeling quite faint. No wonder women in the ages of more restrictive clothing were always swooning.
It was also nice to sit down and watch a couple shows. When we were going several times a summer, my husband and I stopped going to the shows as often. It was a real treat to watch the professional insulter, 'Lady...you should be a nun...', and Sir William Shakespeare's 15 min Hamlet, 'He's acting crazy, licking the walls and talking to his booties', and we even got to see the Joust to the Death at the end of the day.
We sat in the grass, on the quarter of the arena, and cheered for the lesser evil guy, until he was doublecrossed by the eviler guy.
I'd really missed the Faire. So glad I could check it out this summer. Also glad to reconnect with Sara.
