Good things about AD
*New banner, lots o books!
*We had our act together.
*Con presold out of memberships ahead of time
*I brought Fabreeze (thought it was funny)
*Ikea meatballs rock
*Someone knows what I did last summer
IMG_4797
*staying at the nice hotel across the lot.
*Seeing the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] uminomomari and meeting her devoted boytoy Doug! (a fantastic guy who brought Mere sushi and death by chocolate brownies! can we say keeper?!)
IMG_4783
*Taiko Drumming DS game, 4 players on one cart!
*Allie rickrolling Pictochat
Pictochat has been RickRolled
*Real Taiko Drummers are awesome

*Lots of Jazzhands
IMG_4937
*Selling over 60 comics to con goers!! Yay comics
*Mongolian Grill with 16 artists and writers!
IMG_4913
*Hanging with Cj and [livejournal.com profile] chebutykin, soo much fun.
*2 for 1 Bloody Marys!!
*1 word - brow-toupees!
*Lots of great costumes.
*Cool AA peeps.
*Sushi and cinnabon after the con
*This pic!
So Mysterious

Bad things about AD.
*Getting badges took 1 hour 40 min in long line.(with all our AA gear)(Even though the con knew ahead of time everyone was for sure coming)
*No separate artist alley reg.
*Not wearing line ready shoes means I was physically in pain for last 40 min in line.
*Overfull con = claustrophobia
*Not enough comics!
*The SMELL! SO BAD.
*Having to use fabreeze, a lot.
*Convention concessions selling hot dogs + sweaty teen fans + poor ventilation = extra bad smelling con.
*Having to be escorted out of the AA during the cosplay.
*Feeling old and out of touch with anime fans who seem mostly interested in bleach and naruto and consumerism.
*Being really tired, why do cons make one so tired?!

Brand new comics from Studio Anti Thesis

Last night I helped [livejournal.com profile] firebookduo assemble his first issue of Deverish Also. Afterwards we headed over to [livejournal.com profile] smuga and [livejournal.com profile] maciek_smuga's place to finalize what we're bringing to Anime Detour.

I got a chance to see the new issue of Build Your Own Boyfriend, which also looks very snazzy. These two comics each are part of a limited run, afterward they are sold we'll be getting new copies from Comixpress, with a page of their advertising to defray cost.

New issues of Tabloid Roulette/Merylion Factor and issue 2 of Of Two minds will also be debuting at Anime Detour. Yay!

This means we have 10 books currently for sale! How crazy is that!

After we get back from this con, we'll be sure to put all our books into our online store at Studio Anti Thesis.com , so if you don't make the conventions we do this year you can still get awesome independent comics from us.

Tabloid Roulette: Issue 4 cover!

Wow! It's taken me years, but I've finally finished Tabloid Roulette.
Big push this week, I think I've put in at least 30 hours on finishing the last few pages, and this cover.

I'm very happy with this last issue, and can't wait to hold it in my hands. So crazy, TR has been a constant in my life for a long time. I've got plenty of art planned for april, and more comics planned later in the year, but TR will always hold a place in my heart, my first comic! I've learned so much about comics working my way through it. A fantastic introduction to sequentials. /confetties!

Tabloid Roulette: Page 27 inks

Hey, I'm really happy with how this one came out. I've got 26 and 27 to tone, assuming I can get my tablet pc to boot.
:(

I've got a mystery date tonight. Hubby had me reserve tonight weeks ago. I have no clue where we are goin!

Ok, I've had some time while we installed the bazillion service updates on my new tablet.

I've just finished thumbnailing the last 8 pages of Tabloid Roulette. That's issue 4, for those following along at home. I just need to have [livejournal.com profile] smuga sign off on them, and then I'll start blocking things in on 8 actual pieces of paper.

Aha! Finally a way to defeat the tyranny of the blank page!

We need more copies of Ish 2, so we did another pass on the content and I took the time to fix the cover a bit. here's the old one.
Tabloid Roulette: Issue 2 Cover

Got a lot done yesterday, almost 10 hours of comicking.
Inks on page 24 done, pages 21-23 are now in manga studio templates, worked on cleaning up inks and started toning page 22. Today, I need to scan page 24, finish page 22, and pick one other page to attack. Deadline is the 8th! I still need cover ideas for issue 3!!!

Anime Central 07 was a great time. We were in the big part of the Rosemont convention center, the same one that Wizard World usually occupies. Aside from crazy issues with registration, things went fairly well. We didn't see much of the convention, but we rarely ever do. This was the year of the awesome banners. A lot of people took a lot of time and money to make their artist alley tables really stand out, which was great! It was also really fun to have a table next to [livejournal.com profile] uminomomori and across from Brian from http://www.deftoons.com .

Tasty Cuisine was had, lots of artists and folks came out for that, Meredith sent around her little moleskine, and we all sketched quick self-portraits(thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dirktiede's suggestion.) I hope she scans them in, they were fun little sketchies.

That's a lot of Tasty Cuisine!

There was no official art-jam, but that didn't stop some of us from art-jamming anyway, on tables stolen from the gaming overflow room(2 nights in a row). Dirk worked on commissions, Meredith drew emo elfbois, Kevin posed for a Tabloid Roulette panels and [livejournal.com profile] baiyu_dan roamed the halls to find more artists to pull in for the fun.

We gave away all the Code:Creamy Weather Electronica Eraser samplers we printed up, and were throwing in with every purchase.
Code:Creamy Weather Electronica Eraser
We sold all the Temping for Evil mini's we printed for the convention (currently running at http://byob.studioantithesis.com).
We also sold our 100th copy of BYOB! It's a major milestone! I had confetti!

100th BYOB copy sold!

Exhausting as usual, but satisfying. I'm excited about all the comics the studio will have finished by the end of the year.

We had a great time yesterday at the Madison Zine Fest. We got to see some great zinsters, including Billy - The Bunnyman from Loop Distro and Brian Defferding who does the amazing School: A Ghost Story comic (and who Kim and I made blush, after we totally gushed over his well written spooky books).

We had a great panel about Minicomic Zines with the lovely and talented Lynn .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] maelie

Sometime in the day Kim and I got interviewed by some local highschool students about zines and freespeech, which was fun too.

It was generally a wonderful time, which began with homemade waffles with real whipped creme at [livejournal.com profile] smuga and [livejournal.com profile] maciek_smuga's home, and ended with deep dish chocolate pie at Monty's Blue Plate, also with whipped creme. Great day overall. I think it's awesome that we get to have the zine fest in Madison each year, it's great to do things local. This year it had the most people ever, and the quality of many of the zines are fantastic!

More pics of the Zine Fest in my Flickr set!
